Looking Back at The Sound of Music in Yellowknife, 2018
Hi friends, Anna here 🙂 One of the most heartwarming memories in my theatre journey was being part of The Sound of Music with Ptarmigan Ptheatrics in Yellowknife. It was 2018, and stepping into that story felt like stepping into a hug, full of music, laughter, and the kind of joy that stays with you long after the curtain closes.
This show reminded me how powerful the simple things can be. The music doesn’t need to be complicated, it just needs to be honest. Standing shoulder to shoulder with the cast, I realized how even the quietest voices can carry when they’re joined together.
It taught me that theatre isn’t only about drama or spectacle. Sometimes the most moving moments are found in a single note held in harmony, or in the quiet stillness before a song begins.
Since then, I’ve carried those lessons with me into other projects in Ottawa whether on stage, behind the mic, or in front of a camera. That spirit of joy and openness guides me whenever I step into a new role.
The Sound of Music reminded me that theatre can bring us closer, not just to the stories we tell, but to each other. And that’s something I want to hold onto in everything I do.
When I think back to 2018, I remember more than the costumes or the lights. I remember laughter backstage, voices blending in harmony, and the kindness of a community that came together night after night.
The Sound of Music was a reminder that joy belongs on stage too and it’s often in those joyful moments that we discover how powerful storytelling really is.
